To serve the community by collecting, producing and disseminating social and economic statistics at the national level and providing all users with evidence-based information for decision making.
CAS also provides technical supervision of statistics produced by other ministries and public administrations as well as improving methods and harmonizing statistics.
These functions are defined by Law No. 1793/79.
To produce relevant and accurate statistics that are comparable over time in compliance with the international and national standards and recommendations.
By virtue of law, CAS upholds the confidentiality of all information provided by individuals, households and establishments.
It adheres to the United Nations Fundamental Principles of Official Statistics and the Statistics Code of Practice for the European Neighbourhood South countries, based on the European Statistics Code of Practice, ensuring professionalism, impartiality, and quality in its work.
CAS is committed to transparency and equal access.
All available statistics are provided free of charge to users.
CAS works closely with ministries, public administrations and other national data-producing institutions to support the production and harmonization of official statistics and to improve the statistical use of available administrative data.
It also engages with data users to better understand and identify their statistical needs and, whenever possible, seeks to address these needs through the production and dissemination of relevant statistical information.
At the regional and international levels, CAS collaborates with organizations and technical partners on statistical methodologies, surveys, capacity development, quality assurance and the application of internationally recognized standards.
