Law implemented by Decree No. 1793/79
This Law establishes CAS as a public administration within the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, and defines its core responsibilities, including:
– Prepare social and economic national statistics, national accounts, and balance of payments statistics.
– Conduct surveys and studies requested by public entities.
– Supervise technical work of statistical units in other government bodies.
– Ensure confidentiality of personal and financial data collected from individuals or institutions as stipulated in Article 7 of the Statistical Law.
The Law also stipulates that all public administrations must provide CAS with the documents and information needed for statistics, and that individuals and private entities must respond to its mandatory surveys (Article 5).
