Director General

Maria Nalbandian has served as Acting Director General of the Central Administration of Statistics (CAS) since 2023. In this capacity, she leads Lebanon’s official statistical institution in its mission to produce, coordinate and disseminate reliable statistical information across key demographic, social and economic fields. Her role includes supporting the strengthening of statistical governance, enhancing institutional coordination with national and international partners, and promoting the use of data as a foundation for evidence-based policy-making, public planning and informed decision-making.

She began her career at the Ministry of Finance in 1997 as a Senior Tax Inspector in the Beirut Income Tax Department. She subsequently joined the team responsible for the implementation of the Value Added Tax (VAT) in Lebanon and held several senior positions within the Ministry of Finance. In 2002, she was appointed Head of the Tax Audit and Refunds Department at the VAT Directorate, and in 2006, she became Head of the Legislation and Tax Policy Department at the same Directorate.

Throughout her career, Ms. Nalbandian has contributed to the development and implementation of tax policies and administrative reforms and has participated in numerous professional seminars and conferences in Lebanon and abroad.

Ms. Nalbandian holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, a Master’s degree in Accounting and Finance, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Accounting and Tax Auditing.
